Most Improved Official
The Most Improved Official Award recognizes a referee who has demonstrated significant
growth, skill development, and commitment over the course of the season. Nominees should
show measurable improvement across multiple aspects of officiating.

Nomination Criteria
1. Rule Knowledge & Application
o Demonstrates increased understanding of rules.
o Applies rules accurately and confidently during games.
o Shows improvement in decision-making under pressure.
2. Positioning & Skating
o Exhibits better positioning to make accurate calls.
o Shows improved skating ability and mobility during games.
o Demonstrates growth in staying in the right place at the right time consistently.
3. Confidence & Presence
o Increased assertiveness when making calls.
o Projects authority and composure on the ice.
o Shows noticeable improvement in overall confidence during games.
4. Communication Skills
o Improves clarity and effectiveness in communicating with players, coaches, and
other officials.
o Shows better conflict management and teamwork on the ice.
o Actively listens and adjusts communication style as needed.
5. Consistency
o Demonstrates more consistent calls and game management.
o Reduces errors or missed calls compared to earlier in the season.
o Shows measurable progress in maintaining fairness and accuracy.
6. Game Management
o Improved ability to manage game flow and player behavior.
o Shows better judgment in controlling tense or challenging situations.
o Demonstrates growth in anticipating and preventing potential conflicts.
7. Professionalism & Attitude
o Exhibits a positive attitude, commitment, and respect for all participants.
o Shows dedication to learning and improving skills.
o Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and preparedness.
