Development

The National and Provincial officiating programs consist of different levels and those levels are somewhat aligned with the category of hockey for the competing teams.

All registered officials, regardless of age, gender, race, etc. have the ability to develop their skill set and move up to work higher levels of hockey. Hockey Alberta volunteer groups established within each ‘region’ of the Province and they work with local administrators and officials to provide them with mentoring and feedback to help them attain their goals. We also have provincial level programs to which "up and coming" officials can be invited to provide another development opportunity. Within these we have specific programs for female officials, however our main ‘Development Camp’ often has both male and female officials in the same program.

An official’s knowledge of the rules, game management skills, fitness levels, character, etc. all play a part in the supervision and mentoring process and are considered when assignments are being made.
