Heritage Classic Officials Development Seminar

Fifty Hockey Alberta-registered officials, aged 18-25 years, will be selected to participate in a special development evening hosted by the NHL prior to the Heritage Classic in Edmonton. The event is set for Friday, October 27 at Commonwealth Stadium.

Tentative schedule for the event includes:

Brainstorming/Small Group Work followed by a hot stove with the officials working the Heritage Classic. Topics of focus in the brainstorming session include:

  • Sightlines as a Referee in the 4-official system
  • Sightlines as a linesperson in the 4-official system
  • Communication as a Referee with coaches/players and fellow officials
  • Communication as a Linesperson with coaches/players and fellow officials as it relates to key moments (ie; face-offs, scrums, reviews, after a contentious call, etc.)

Officials eligible to apply for this event must be registered and certified for the 2023-24 season, and be between the ages of 18 and 25 years. Selections will be made by the Hockey Alberta Officials Committee.
